One of Toho Studio's more ambitious, yet still totally obscure science fiction films from the late 1980's, "Gunhed", get's video reviewed by my recent friend Brandon Tenold.
Okay, probably not that obscure, seeing how no one on this side of the Pacific Ocean has ever seen, nor heard of 1987's "Tokyo Blackout"...but I digress.
***********
For those of you who don't know, "Gunhed" combined cyberpunk design with giant robot elements - both of which were really big with anime at the time, but rarely done in live action form. Unfortunately, "Gunhed" doesn't quite succeed in this regard, to say the least.
And although Brandon doesn't make mention it, "Gunhed" originated from the unproduced script "Godzilla 2", also known as Godzilla vs. The Robot Army", which was the runner-up in the same writers contest that spawned "Godzilla vs. Biollante" (1989).
Many kaiju fans have mistakenly referred to this unmade adventure as "Godzilla vs. Gunhed", but that's very inaccurate, seeing how the title character of Gunhed, (a sentient robotic tank) was added long after Godzilla was written out.

My nerdy exposition aside, you can watch Brandon's humorous video review here: blip.tv/BrandonTenold/gunhed-6…
And here's Toho Kingdom's small page for "Godzilla 2": www.tohokingdom.com/cutting_ro…
And seriously though, if anyone has a copy of "Tokyo Blackout" (1987), please contact me - I don't care if it's any good, I'd still like to see it.

Giant Monster Fiction from 1967
Maybe you guys can help me: can you think of any giant monster / kaiju fiction from 1967 that I may have missed?
